Changes related to work permit and visa in Russia

08/11/2007.

Russian Federation law related to the working of foreign employees in Russia has changed.

Pursuant to the law the foreign employee willing to work in the Russian Federation has to get a work permit. Additionally, the foreign citizen is obliged to have a work visa to work in Russia in accordance with the work permit. The ordinary work visa is issued to a foreign citizen entering the Russian Federation for the purpose of employment for a three-month period with possible prolongation up to one year.

To be able to obtain work visas, the company has to register in the passport and visa department in the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The registration enables the company to grant invitations to their employees, based on which the work visa can be applied.

The violations against the law and regulations may consequence to penalties and even exclusion out of the Russian Federation. Thus it is highly recommended to pay attention that the working conditions of foreign employees in Russia comply with the law.
